Messer Group opens development centers near Krefeld

The Messer Group is expanding its experimental technical facilities in and around Krefeld. Following the sale of the Messer Griesheim GmbH technical facility in Krefeld to the Air Liquide Group, the industrial gas manufacturer is now investing in state of the art technical facilities.

"We are consolidating our position in Germany for the forthcoming resumption of our industrial gas activities in the market here," explains CEO Stefan Messer. The sale of the German parts of the company in May this year is linked with a three-year competition prohibition. The Messer Group is using this time to greatly build up its resources in Germany.

New start with superior quality

In cooperation with Fraunhofer UMSICHT and FKuR Kunststoff GmbH, a highly specialized technical facility is being established in Willich where the Messer Group will be able to offer its customers in other European countries process developments and trials in the fields of cold grinding and materials recycling. On the premises of the Fraunhofer Institute for environment -, safety and energy engineering establishment in Willich, a specialist team from Messer will commence operation of the experimental facilities in February 2005.The commissioning of a technical center for welding and cutting applications is also imminent. The seat of the firm DURUM-Verschleiss-Schutz GmbH in Willich-Schiefbahn near Krefeld, a welding specialist and manufacturer of wear protection materials, will offer the new experimental facility every opportunity for synergies. The field of welding and cutting is a part of the traditional portfolio of the Messer Group. So the Messer family holds a controlling interest in Messer Cutting & Welding GmbH, with its seat in Frankfurt am Main, and its parent company Messer Eutectic Castolin Holding GmbH.
