Industrial gases specialist Messer at EuroBLECH 2022 trade fair

Gases offer solutions for sustainable optimization

At EuroBLECH 2022, Messer will showcase process optimization solutions with gases across the spheres of welding and cutting. The joint stand – shared with Messer Cutting Systems – will feature a focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, cost reduction and digitalization.

Optimization of cutting and welding processes

Choosing the optimal gas mixture to maximize the quality and efficiency of welding and cutting processes is the number one consideration. The Messer portfolio comprises specific mixtures for many different processes, including for laser material processing. The gas product lines are subject to a continuous process of development to encourage technical innovations in the market.

Lasline, Nitrocut and Oxycut are product lines featuring all the necessary gases and gas mixtures for successful laser use. Messer also offers tailor-made solutions to produce individually customized mixtures on-site at production centers. Where only smaller quantities are required, customers also have the option of receiving ready-made mixtures in bundles.

There are further special product lines for plain and low-alloy steels, for TIG, MIG and MAG welding of high-alloy steels, for welding aluminum and non-ferrous metals as well as for all additive manufacturing operations. The Messer Gas Scout makes it easy to find the right cutting or welding gas from a mobile or laptop.

Particle filters protect laser optics

As laser cutting machines become increasingly powerful, they require correspondingly large quantities of gas. This also increases the potential risk of particle contamination. “Foreign bodies can get into the gas flow between the gas tank and the cutting machine,” explains Dr Bernd Hildebrandt, Messer welding and cutting expert. “We offer different solutions and particle filter technologies to protect laser cutting machines and maintain their efficiency.” Messer is working with, among others, Messer Cutting Systems, as a manufacturer of laser cutting machines, to optimally integrate the filter units and ensure that replacing the filters is a straightforward process. Filter solutions are also available for machines that have already been installed.

Digital tools and services

The storage tanks installed by Messer at customer sites automatically communicate the current fill level to the supply logistics team once a day, triggering an automatic order where required. Trip planning for the gas trailers is optimized with a view to minimizing the carbon footprint. The quantities delivered – both tank and cylinder deliveries – are logged automatically; all the relevant data, including invoices, can be made available online. In the online portal, customers can also place orders themselves and obtain a complete overview of deliveries, stock and consumption.
